In 1910 Crowley met a German occultist, Karl Theodor Reuss, the head of an occult secret society OTO. "Stowe School is very very interesting - I was shown round once by a friend who was an ex-pupil. It has some links with the Hell Fire Club of Sir Francis Dashwood, mainly due to some of the 'grottos' in the gardens (Temple of Venus etc). However there is a closer link. My friend took us down to the 'lower' level rooms which at one time would have been the kitchen/service areas for the great house, but in the school's times are mainly used as Storerooms etc. He showed us a very surprising room, nothing like the others around. It was fairly small (about 16 foot square) with entrance/exit at either end, opposite each other. Recollection is hazy (sadly no photos), the room was completely symmetrical with a frieze with Egyptian symbolism all round the walls and the doorways had porticos with the 'eye of horus' over them (I think). I think there were some Egyptian style stone carvings as well. If you look into the Hell Fire Clubs ethos they have a lot of Eygptian Symbolism so it is possible that the room was built as a meeting place."
