PAEDOPHILE BARRISTER WITHOUT ANY REMORSE WAS REWARDED MEANWHILE NO PAYOUTS FOR NON-BARRISTERS WHO'S CASES BREECH HUMAN RIGHTS GUIDELINES
A victim of a barrister who was jailed for sexually abusing boys spoke of his anger that the European Court of Human Rights had awarded his abuser more than £5,000 in compensation and costs.
A victim of a barrister who was jailed for sexually abusing boys spoke of his anger that the European Court of Human Rights had awarded his abuser more than £5,000 in compensation and costs.
David Meek waived his right to anonymity to protest over the
money received by his abuser, Rupert Massey, who had complained that
the case against him took too long to come to court.
Oxford-educated Massey, 59, who practised as a barrister in
Dorset, was jailed in 1999 for six years for assaults on boys in the
1970s and 1980s.
However, he has received a payout of £5,496 after the
European Court found he had suffered "distress and frustration" because
of the "unreasonable" length of proceedings against him.
Massey befriended Mr Meek, who was eight years old, and two
other boys as they played on the beach at Branksome, Dorset. The lawyer,
who is now out of jail, lured the children to his home where he
sexually abused them.

He was arrested in 1995 after one of the children complained
to police. He was charged in 1997 and in 1999 he was convicted of 16
offences of indecent assault against the three boys.
Mr Meek, a builder who said that the European Court's ruling "defied all logic and justice".
He had tried to challenge the judgment, but was told there were no grounds for doing so.
Mr Meek, who has received £6,000 from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, said he hoped that by speaking out, he could prevent the court making similar awards. He said nobody had considered the stress he had endured when he had to give evidence at Massey's trial, where the Barrister had denied the charges. He too had been affected by the adjournments, he added.
"Where was the European Court when I was sitting at home tearing my hair out because of yet another adjournment in the case?
"The people that matter, the victims, the police and the prosecutors, were never consulted over his claim for money and that can't be right."
The National Association for People Abused in Childhood (NAPAC) also criticised the payout, calling it "perverse".
A spokesman said: "My reaction is one of bewilderment. Everybody has rights. But when people commit offences against children I struggle with the fact these people have the same rights as the rest of us.
"By pleading not guilty he [Massey] made it a lot worse for his victims.
"This man made them take the stand at his trial and go through the pain and heartbreak of having to relive the most awful things in front of a court."
Judges at the court in Strasbourg were told that the length of time between Massey's arrest and the case coming to trial was so great that his human rights were breached.
The court upheld Massey's claims, awarding him £2,750 damages and £2,750 in legal costs.
In its judgment, the court said: "It is reasonable to assume that the applicant suffered some distress and frustration exacerbated by the unreasonable length of proceedings." How many none lawyers who have waitied years for their trial get a payout ? answer none.
MASSEY A MEDIA LAWYER ABUSED FORMER CHILD STAR MARK EADIE
FORMER child star of TV's Grange Hill told of the secret abuse he suffered at the hands of Rupert Massey a showbiz lawyer.
Mark Eadie spoke out when jailed Rupert Massey planned an appeal against his conviction for 16 indecent assaults.
The ex-actor, who has fought depression and a breakdown, was too ill to testify against Massey at the trial in Wolverhampton.
In the late 70s, Mark was Andrew Stanton in Grange Hill - getting into scrapes with Tucker Jenkins, played by EastEnder Todd Carty. He met Massey at 14 and was invited to Bournemouth, where the lawyer lived.
Mark, now 35 and married with children, said: "He recognised I was vulnerable and in need of cuddling." He said the abuse began almost immediately.
Massey, who found him acting roles, expected him to share a double bed and swim naked in the sea.
When Mark learned Massey was under investigation and recalled: "I began to realise he was an animal. I fell apart."

And this is the very same Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority that awarded me less (£5k) when I was randomly attacked by about 10 teenagers.
ReplyDeleteI nearly lost my eye, had to have permanent metal plates inserted, cancelled a holiday, took a year out, went to counselling for 18 months. I had to have several teeth reshaped, and I still can't really cry out of one eye.
Forgive the anonymity, but the only 2 people sentenced for this attack "weren't in prison long enough" for me to be given any information for my peace of mind. This country is a joke.
Thank you for sharing your harrowing experience. You have suffered a great injustice. It is the system that is at fault and we are all working hard to expose it.
DeleteWIshing you peace.

DeleteFor as long as they hold the control, they win, we need to find a way of taking the power of control away from them. Massey was carrying on with his despicable ways in the European Court and they let him. We need to campaign for life imprisonement for these sociopaths who will never have any remorse, guilt for what they do nor any sense of respect for human beings. What they inflict on their victims last a lifetime, you never recover from it. It is not just about physical violence and forced upon rape, it is about manipulation of the young mind, the grooming of the whole family, the wool pulled over the eyes of so many people whilst they convince the young ones that what they are doing to them is normal and right and that the rest of us do not understand them etc...... MOSAC pack explains it...I have managed to send one of those perverts to jail for 3 years and 4 months last December 2012 (Edward Basset Maidstone Crown Court, Kent, UK). What was worse for us was that at the sentence hearing we found out that all the charitable organisations he had infiltrated to carry out his crimes as well as abusing my daughter for 6 years, were taken into account as good deeds to reduce his sentence. That has to be addressed as well. They take position of power from school governors, Parish Councillors to head of state and count on the protection/corruption that these positions offer to them. We should campaign for rights as human beings to be striped from them as soon as they are found guilty of abuse against any minor, full stop, they are not human, they are not even animals, they are pure evil.
